As previous posts show I am highly influenced by the Neurological Levels model from NLP, developed by Robert Dilts. More so, I have been actively engaged in utilising the model since my Master Practitioner training in August. I have been using it in a number of different ways and most extensively within my coaching activity.

The model has six levels: Purpose (also spirituality and relates to vision), identity (relates to mission), beliefs and values, capability (encompasses skills, knowledge, attitudes, experiences), behaviour, environment. The model applies equally to organisations (and other bodies), teams and individuals.

It occurred to me at a recent team development event that the identity level relates to ’the talk’, the way an organisation or individual sees itself whilst the environment level equates to ‘the walk’, the effects of the identity as experienced by others. This has helped a number of coachees identify gaps between what is espoused and the reality.
